Love it or hate it - football is here to stay for a few weeks! It's a pity that the England team can't show some of the flair that our beloved TV chefs can! The teams performance can be likened to a souffle that hasn't risen or a pile of wilted winter greens! Let's hope that Wednesday afternoon's performance provides some icing on the metaphoric cake!
As predicted it was indeed Thai Chicken curry on Tuesday night - driving fatigue meant that something quick and easy was required and something that required no shopping! In fact that has been the theme running throughout this week food wise, with the exception of Saturday which of course was the biggest day in the calendar year - Sue's birthday! We celebrated it with a "bring your own meat " barbecue for around 20 friends. So having watched the rugby on Saturday morning I spent the afternoon getting a variety of salads, sauces and dressings ready! The Ballymaloe Cookery Course cook book was a great help - Tuscan pepper and pasta salad, potato and spring onion salad and several herby vinaigrette's were teased out of the book in addition to a mixed bean and avacado salad and a Greek salad - enough to feed an army! As with all barbecues, the coals were ready to cook on by the time all the food had been cooked - no wonder some of the chicken pieces looked a litle on the charred side! A great time was had by all - the photographs are too risky to publish but I can e mail them to interested parties -the one of Jane in the dog basket will be of particular interest to animal rights activists.
The birthday girl is sitting on the left of the front row!
One of the highlights (excuse the pun) was when the Chinese lanterns sailed off into the still night air - despite the warning on the packet not to release them within a five mile radius of an airport - I reckon we live about five miles and 20 yards outside the flight path of Cardiff airport - still, nothing lands or takes off after about 9 o'clock at night!
"No Tim, you can't tie Gregor to the baloon!"
More excitement next week - if I have time - have been keeping the motor industry going recently and also have a new bike that I'm keen to be out on - Oh! There's also golf to fit in!
Happy and healthy eating!
