It's finally over! What a fantastic week it's been for Wales, for golf and for Europe! The Welsh weather lived up to it's expectations - heavy rain and sunshine - but then what can you expect in October! Sue and I had tickets for last Wednesday which was one of the practice days - the forecast was for rain so we set off very early in the hope that we would at least see some play if we got there early enough. The European team were scheduled to start their practice round at 0800 and the American team at 0830 so our 6 am departure meant we got there with plenty of time to spare! After the half an hour bus journey from the Park & Ride car park and the 3/4 mile walk to the course -we were about ready to see some action - but those wussy golfers did not appear because of a little bit of rain! So we made our way to the tented village for a well deserved bacon and sausage butty - £4.50 each! I've already started penning my letter of complaint to Sir Terry Matthews and Ryder Cup Ltd about blatant profiteeering but that's another matter! Eventually though the golfers did emerge from under their umbrellas - Tiger didn't manage to talk to us but Jim Furyk did and Miguel Angel Jimenez blew smoke from his very big cigar in our general direction - the corporate tents were full to brimming whilst the common people slipped and slid around in the mud.
Despite all this and the incessant rain, we had a great day out at what has to be,
one of the great world sporting events!
So my birthday party on Saturday was the icing on the cake, so to speak! Lasagne for 20 and kind friends making salads and garlic bread and puddings! The event passed without too much debauchery and the presents included a genuine fondu set and a 1978 Whizzer and Chips Annual.
This week Sue and I are off to Italy to stay with my dear sister - so it's pasta, wine and other delightfiul food things!
Ciao!
