Tanjung Rhu - Chapter 10

A restless night - too full of rich food!  After breakfast the thunder started and the rain came.  We headed into Kuah, the main town on Langkawi for some supplies.  Langkawi is a duty free island so the price of some goods are significantly cheaper than hotels!

Kuah was a bit of a one horse town that the horse had left - rows of shops selling tat.

Armed with our goodies we returned in our 30 ringgit taxi (Taxis 3 - Us 3 as we had paid 35 on the way out!).  The rain had stopped but it was still overcast and humid - the haze is due apparently to the Indonesians burning the forests in Sumatra?!

A head and shoulder massage had been booked and was every bit as good as it was anticipated. We lunched on satay chicken and beef and a cool beer by the children's pool - glad the adults have their own and this was followed by a cookery demonstration by one of the chefs - dish of the day was Pengat Pisang or Braised banana with coconut cream and palm sugar!  It only took about 10 minutes to knock up, my kind of dish!  I was presented with a complimentary book of recipes from the resort kitchens, so should be fun when I get back, trying to find palm leaves in Tesco!

There are a lot of couples from the Middle East countries in the resort at the moment - a typical scene is the man in tee shirts, shorts and flip flops walking along the beach with wife clad in all in black burkha about 5 yards behind him - great holiday!  I'm going to suggest to Sue that we try doing that tomorrow - watch this space!
Our room is fantastic- spacious and open plan and even has an open plan bathroom  - not sure the view from the toilet is much though.

Every afternoon between 4 and 6 pm, afternoon tea is served on the decking overlooking the beach - all very civilised and one activity that we had to indulge in!  Beautifully cut sandwiches, cakes, scones and little savoury munchies are all there to be devoured!

A bath with a view - of the lounge & bedroom!
So all in all we spend the days, eating, dozing in the sun and drinking and reading before we eat again.  The Saffron Restaurant beckons tonight, scallops, prawns and steak, all with a Mediterranean flavour - should be good!

And to end today some wildlife pictures -
Lizard

Beached whale

Tomorrow I must do some exercise!
