Langkawi, Tanjung Rhu Resort - Chapter 9

A relaxing morning by the pool before packing our cases for the umpteenth time - I'm getting quite good at packing the case now that I have more room due to the absence of my socks -  I now wrap the bottle of £4 gin in my washing bag full of sweaty t shirts.

"Taxis 2 - Us 3" - managed to beat him down from 70 to 65 ringgits - if it was metered it would probably only be a 20 but I'm passed caring now!  Air Asia came up trumps again with no delays and a short flight that only took 30 minutes from take off to landing - not even time for the trolley to go and down the aisle.  Retrieved the bags and was just about to go through the ritual taxi business when I noticed a smartly dressed young man holding a placard which read "Mrs Susan Weekes" - as I approached he looked at me and said "Mr David Cope?" - So taken aback, I spluttered some tame reply.  People had said that the Tanjung Rhu was up market but we didn't expect a driver!  As we clambered into the minivan, our driver gave us an iced towel and a bottle of water to cool us down from the searing midday heat!  Unlike the deaf mute that we'd had in Penang, Andi was full of conversation - informing us that the island's number one industry was tourism followed by agriculture - rice and rubber - the price for the former was increasing due to a shortage and apparently Malaysia imports rice from Indonesia and Thailand - all interesting stuff which helped to pass the 30 minute journey to the hotel!  On arrival we were impressed big time!
The hotel is set in 100 acres of its own grounds and has a private beach which stretches for 2 kms. The rooms nestle amid palm trees and water features which includes a sea water swimming pool with a sandy bottom in case the beach is closed due to jelly fish and other nasty stingy things!  Three restaurants, three pools, bars, everything you could possibly want in a very tastefully designed campus.
The activities programme includes such exciting things as batik and wood carving, henna designing and fish feeding - I'm going to opt for something slightly more dynamic and do a cooking class with one of the a la carte chefs!  Also included in our package are water sports, head massages and all the food and drink - soft drinks only!  It's amazing how an empty water bottle filled with gin looks like a bottle of water though!

An hour or two by the pool and a swift cocktail before our gourmet dinner at 9pm which was set overlooking the sea with a string quartet playing tunes from West End musicals - all very magical!
