Pangkor Laut - Day 1 - Chapter 3

Lots of people say that Malaysia surpasses most other countries in the world for service – we had witnessed it both in KL and at the Pangkor Beach Resort but Pangkor Laut was about to deliver something else!  We left Pangkor Beach resort having met some of the friendliest people you could ever wish to meet and took the short ferry ride back to Lumut.

We did the shops in Lumut in about 10 minutes and bought essential supplies! We had paid nearly £30 for a bottle of wine with our dinner the previous night – I’ve bought cars for less than that - so we weren’t going to fall into the same trap.
How much?
The island is owned by a Chinese business man who also has his fingers in lots of other property pies   The resort prides itself on the slogan, “One island, one resort”.   We checked into the ferry office where our bags were taken off us and we were offered a cool refreshing fruit drink and a cool towel to mop our perspiring brows!

Our ferry ride from Lumut was rough!  The 16 seater speed boat driven by some cool Malaysian dude in a pair of aviator Raybans (almost certainly fake - I could tell as I compared them to my genuine Rolex that I had purchased in KL!)  took about 40 minutes and we were told to wear our lifejackets, very reassuring!  I swear that the Japanese woman sitting opposite us changed various shades of green but she did manage to hold onto her sushi.

On arrival were were ushered into a reception area where we met our own personal agent  called Iqbal – his job was to ensure that our stay was to memorable and he meticulously explained where the various island’s facilities were and when the restaurants opened and closed.  He then escorted us to our beach villa, set in the lush green jungle garden, a stone’s throw from the beach.  WOW!  Our own resort flipflops lay neatly parked either side of the huge super king bed was our first sight on enetering.  Then through to the dressing area and the minibar and then the bathroom area!  Shower & toilet cubicles and the bath which was the size of one of those huge baths that rugby teams frolic in after a match – but it was outside and completely private!

Lunch by the pool and  a cocktail in Emerald Bay which is reputed to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – we’ll let you be the judge of that!  The pictures tell it all!  Tonight we dine at Uncle Lim’s restaurant, a minbus shuttle drive away – a mixture of Chinese and Malay food is promised – I bet the service will be better than the Golden Well!

Is anyone reading this drivel?

  1. Indeed we are. Unfortunately school ends today and so from tomorrow I will be camping in Durham with the kids and unable to wait by the pc for your latest installment.

Malaysia v Durham....hmmmm.... Malaysia looks idylic and you're certainly enjoying it but its easier to get a trailer tent to Durham.
