Pangkor Laut - Day 2 - Chapter 4

Uncle Lim’s was, as expected, marginally better than the Golden Well Chinese restaurant, just outside Bridgend and over dinner we discussed our plan for the next day.  We deliberated whether to take the private cruise on the resort’s 34 foot yacht or visit the spa village which promised to caress our senses and replenish our spirits and relieve us of a lot of ringgits!  We instead opted for, a free Tai Chi session in the spa village followed by a hot and steamy jungle walk to Emerald Bay and a chill on the  beach!

Snakes?
Sue sat and read her book while I was given 1:1 tuition in the rudiments of Tai Chi by the local Chinese guru, who spoke very little English and I’m afraid to admit that my Mandarin is as little rusty!  Undeterred, we both got on like long lost friends and I dutifully followed the moves made by my master.  30 minutes later and with my mind and body replenished and very much focussed on the other day’s activities like lounging by the pool, eating, drinking and reading, we set off through the jungle to Emerald Bay about half a kilometre away on the other side of the island.  Most of this was uphill so by the time we arrived on the beach, our clothes looked as if we had just come out of the shower.  I’d like to say that we saw an abundance of wildlife but the truth is that we saw nothing, nada, zilch -  nothing probably came within a bites distance of us due to the smell of sweat and the noise of us breathing heavily!

So our day has consisted of basically chilling out in paradise!

Waiter?

I know that I’ve been harping on about the quality of the service but one of the things that make this place so special is the care and attention to detail that is given by everyone working here.  Before we went out last night a lady came round to our villa plug in the mosquito repellent and to spay under the bed and in all the other hidey holes!  If you venture into any of the public area toilets the soap dispensers are cunningly disguised by large green tropical leaves.  The waste bins have ornate fresh flower arrangements on top of them and as soon as you sit down in the pool area, someone appears within seconds with a glass of iced water with a decoratively carved piece of fruit in it!  This is replenished almost before the ice has melted and at strategic intervals you are brought an ice cold towel to mop your fevered brow!  Even the pile of towels by the pool is decorated with flower petals.

So our last night in Pangkor Laut will se us dine in the Feast village offering diverse culinary experiences from the Asia/Pacific region!  We are currently sitting outside our Malay styled villa in our kimonos soaking up the last of the sun with a large G & T – we could seriously get used to this!
